Tradition on skis
The Arlberg: The birthplace of Alpine skiing
The Arlberg region has a long tradition as a winter sports resort. The first ski races were held here at the beginning of the 20th century. Here, on the Arlberg, the foundations were laid for today's popularity of Alpine winter sport.
Since the beginning of the 20th century the world-famous Arlberg Ski School has brought the fascination of skiing to a broad general public. The first lift facility was constructed in 1937 propelling the sport of alpine skiing to new heights of popularity.

Today, the four ski areas around the Arlberg massif are interconnected to form a ski resort with 86 lifts, 276 kilometres of groomed slopes and 180 km of deep-snow runs. Since the end of the 1980s, the region’s popularity as a summer holiday resort has steadily grown and it is now a well-loved destination for hikers, climbers and mountain bikers.
